5 Story Interior Renovation
Cost: Not Available
After 9-11 courts and federal buildings required security updates and modernization due to changes in judicial policies. The Solomon Courthouse Building, although historic and stately, lacked secure access, inadequate mechanical systems, out-of-date courtrooms and support spaces. Court rooms had to function during major renovation work on public areas. Further, the exterior could not be modified in appearance.
A careful approach to scheduling and sequencing of construction allowed courts to function daily. An interior light well running full height was used to provide new mechanical system connections from the roof to each floor with no visible change to the exterior. 3 floors of courtrooms, support spaces and public areas were updated to current standards. Homeland security now occupies a portion of the building as an example of the high standards attained.
